What Are The Benefits of Fluoride?
Commonly an element in many standard oral care programs, fluoride is a natural substance present in some foods and beverages. However, fluoride is often spread topically onto the tooth enamel to provide additional oral benefits. Fluoride may fight off cavities by helping the teeth become less susceptible to tartar. Fluoride can also reinforce the tooth's structure to minimize the first phases of dental decay. Cities that put fluoride in drinking supplies typically report decreased instances of cavities among their residents. These profits of fluoride are noted by the American Dental Association (ADA) and additional notable societies. At NowDental of Suffolk, we are excited to provide regular fluoride services for Coram, Stony Brook, and Huntington, NY, individuals of all age groups. To hear more regarding how fluoride may help your children's oral health, set up a consultation with one of our periodontists at our Smithtown office.
Do I Need Fluoride Treatments?
Anyone, from elementary-aged students to adults, might be the perfect candidate for topical fluoride treatments. Fluoride can help ward off decay in kids with developing teeth or adults who are more prone to cavities. Individuals who do not drink fluoride-contained water might also benefit from regular services. Our team may perform fluoride sessions if you are at a higher risk of cavities, like if you wear traditional braces or have dry mouth (xerostomia). Fluoride treatments can additionally serve to reduce tooth sensitivity and protect vulnerable enamel, as it is more prone to decay.
What Can I Expect From Fluoride Treatments?
NowDental of Suffolk provides a variety of fluoride options to make these services tolerable for all patients. Fluoride services are usually conducted every six months right after a cleaning and biannual dental exam. When your fluoride flavor is picked, we will ready the treatment as either a liquid, gel, foam, or varnish. It will be left on the teeth for 1 – 4 minutes, depending on the solution, to allow the treatment enough time to absorb into your enamel. To attain the best possible benefits from your service, you may have to wait around 30 minutes before eating and drinking.
NowDental of Suffolk Reviews
Very impressed, great dental office
Easy friendly efficient
The hygienist would give me breaks when cleaning my teeth to make sure I was ok. He would talk to me to make me feel comfortable since I told him I hate the dentist! He kept saying my teeth were very clean! The dentist answered all my questions that I had plus the questions I had about my 7 year old son that I was worried about! The wait time for the dentist took a few, but it was a holiday and only one dentist there.
Excellent experience. Got there at 9AM and was finished by 9:30AM. Great job, no pain :) Courteous and sweet staff.
Wonderful experience. I had an issue with my insurance, and the girl from the front desk, offered herself to speak with them to help me out. I was in a lot of pain and frustrated for the insurance problem, but they treated me with a lot of compassion and respect. The doctor, the assistant and front desk were excellent and very professional. I will definitely recommend this place.

How Do I Care For My Teeth After Fluoride Treatments?
If you happen to mistakenly consume some fluoride, you may feel a bit ill after your treatment. This shouldn't last more than one day following your appointment, however. In a few situations, we may offer fluoride supplements or dentist-approved fluoridated toothpaste for you to use at home. Given that fluoride is known to be deadly in high quantities, guardians must be careful to keep fluoride products out of reach of children. Even though fluoride services help to ward off tooth decay, it is still necessary to polish the teeth with fluoridated products twice per day. Our dental care providers also ask you to receive regular oral exams and thorough cleanings at NowDental of Suffolk so our team can reassess your complete oral health.
Are Fluoride Treatments Covered By Insurance?
Topical fluoride applications might be covered by your dental insurance plan. Our facility's insurance specialist may go over your family's insurance plan to help you get the most out of your policy. If you have additional costs, our staff can talk about the various payment options accepted at NowDental of Suffolk or help you find medical payment programs.
